Michael Saylor Skips His Sunday Bitcoin Chart, and Crypto Traders Check on Him Like a Grandpa Who Didn't Call After Church

Strategy chairman Michael Saylor didn't post his usual Sunday orange-dot bitcoin chart, and the markets responded the way a family responds when the group chat goes quiet: with theories, panic and a 4.87% drop. This satirical business dispatch reads the tea leaves, the dots, and the dots that were not there.

Michael Saylor Skips His Sunday Bitcoin Chart, and Crypto Traders Check on Him Like a Grandpa Who Didn't Call After Church

The most important financial document of the weekend was not filed with the SEC. It was not posted at all. Michael Saylor, chairman of Strategy, skipped his Sunday bitcoin chart, and an entire industry sat by the window like a dog whose owner is late from work.

For more than a year, Saylor has posted a snapshot of Strategy's bitcoin tracker to X almost every Sunday. Each orange dot marks a purchase. Other men post photos of their lawn. Saylor posts proof that he bought more of the internet.

The chart usually arrives before a Monday filing confirming the company bought more coins. It is less a market signal than a weather vane that only ever points to "more." Traders have learned to read it the way ancient Romans read goat livers, except the goat is a billionaire and the liver is a scatter plot.

This Sunday, no chart. Saylor was alive and posting. He replied to Jack Dorsey and called bitcoin "the moat." So the man was online, typing, and fully capable of attaching a picture. He simply chose not to. In crypto, that is not a quiet weekend. That is a hostage video with no hostage.

Analysts rushed to interpret the silence, which is the one asset nobody can short. Some called it a pause. Some called it a signal. One trader presumably refreshed X so many times his thumb applied for disability.

The numbers suggest the orange dots have been on a diet. Strategy bought 267 bitcoin for about $22.1 million in the week to October 18, after buying 250 the week before. Earlier this year, single weekly purchases topped 20,000. That is like going from buying the whole bakery to asking if they sell half a croissant.

Meanwhile, the company spent $193.1 million buying back its own STRC preferred stock that same week and raised its repurchase program from $2 billion to $3 billion. Strategy, it turns out, has discovered a new favorite thing to buy: itself. It is the corporate version of a man who stops collecting vintage cars because he has started collecting his own receipts.

Do not cry for the orange dots. Strategy still holds 848,517 bitcoin, bought for about $64 billion at an average of $75,446 each. That is more than 4% of all bitcoin that will ever exist, which means Saylor skipping a purchase is like the ocean skipping a glass of water.

The market was less philosophical. MSTR fell 4.87% to $146.01, and bitcoin sat near $80,293. A stock dropping because a man didn't post a JPEG is the purest form of capitalism ever achieved. Adam Smith wrote about the invisible hand. He did not foresee the invisible chart.

The real answer arrives in Monday's filing, followed by third-quarter results after the closing bell on Thursday, October 29, with a live webinar at 5 p.m. Eastern. Investors will finally learn whether the dots were paused, sold, or merely shy.

Until then, Wall Street will do what it always does with an empty space: fill it with fear. Saylor said bitcoin is the moat. This weekend, the moat was fine. It was the castle's group chat that went dark.

The Case of the Missing Orange Dots

Nobody knows until Monday's filing. Right now the only confirmed thing he stopped doing is posting a picture, which in crypto counts as a press conference.

Because traders treat Saylor's Sunday post like a lighthouse. When the light goes out, nobody checks the map. They just start screaming at the rocks.

Its own preferred stock, to the tune of $193.1 million in a week. It's the first company to go on a shopping spree and come home with a bag full of itself.
